Sensitive and intelligent, the Saluki should never be trained using force or hard-handed methods. They are usually quiet and don't bark unless there is a reason.

The Saluki is arguably one of the oldest breeds of dog, existing since the times of ancient Egypt. Carvings of greyhound-type dogs with the Saluki's distinctive feathered ears, legs and tail were found in Sumerian ruins dated around 7,000 B.C. Bred for speed, strength and stamina this breed traveled the harsh desert with it's nomadic masters where it served as a guardian, hunter and companion. Today this breed excels as a pet with its dignified quiet demeanor and loyalty to it's family. The Saluki is a low-key, low maintenance dog. They require minimal grooming, a brisk rub down once a week will suffice. They should have plenty of exercise, either by access to a large fenced area or daily walks. The outline of the last few pairs of ribs should be clearly visible, otherwise the animal is overweight.  They are extremely athletic and can easily clear a 6 foot fence. Because of their speed and jumping ability they should not be allowed off-lead except in a fully fenced area. They become very attached to their family and may become protective of their people and property. CRITERIA TO BE MET BY APPLICANT

A.3 LIST ( BREED SPECIALIST)
1 dog in the stud book either bred, owned, co-owned or to have lived with the judge for one year.
To have judged salukis for a least 7 years.
To have judged not less than 50 classes and a minimum of 150 Salukis (absentees excluded from this figure).
Should have judged a Saluki Breed Club show.
Should have attended a breed teaching seminar and an assessment seminar for Salukis at which they achieved the required standard.
Meet other criteria as prescribed by the Kennel Club.

B LIST (BREED SPECIALIST)
To have owned, co-owned or lived with and exhibited Salukis for 6 years before starting to judge the breed.
To have judged salukis for a least 5 years.
To have attended 1 saluki breed teaching seminar.
To have judged not less than 20 classes and a minimum of 60 salukis at Limited and Open show level (absentees excluded from this figure)

ALL ROUNDERS
To have judged not less than 20 classes and a minimum of 60 salukis (absentees excluded from this figure)
To have attended 1 breed teaching seminar

C LIST (FOR THE ASPIRING BREED SPECIALIST)
Must have been in the breed and/or lived with a saluki for 6 years.
To have attended 1 saluki breed teaching seminar

FOR THE ASPIRING ALL ROUNDERS
To have stewarded saluki classes at shows, including a Saluki Club Show. To have attended 1 saluki breed teaching seminar.
